our route: the blue line is the Trans-Siberian Express | | | | |
We have three time pieces in our compartment: Moscow time on the alarm clock because all the train stops are marked in MT. Jeannine's watch shows HT, home time in Cape Town and Frei-Laubersheim. And my watch keeps track of local time. Today we stop in Omsk and Novosibirsk and we are already 3h ahead of Moscow time- 5h ahead of home time.

The view to go with the waltz |
The train's ga-chic-a-chic, ga-chic-a-chic rhythm makes an endless French chanson go around in my head. A waltz, accordion and all. At night it's the perfect lullaby.

So far we have been eating the food we bought in Moscow and during stops from traders on the platform.

The two Chinese train attendants in our carriage make sure we get back on the train well before departure. This can be a bit frustrating because the stops are rarely longer than 15min anyway. Jeannine, just fresh out of school, is more compliant. But I have left Germany too long ago... When I nip out at Novosibirsk to see the station and get back on the train on a different carriage I inadvertently cause chaos. 1st class passenger over board. Left behind in Siberia's biggest city. We try to share our precious chocolate cookies as peace offering. But they only accept my promise not to do it again.
