Easy Taiga!

8. April

Outside the window it looks like Christmas- snow on falling on... cedars? Pines? Coniferous forests in any event. Which means we have reached the taiga
To celebrate the occasion we venture to the Russian dining car.

They have a large menu but when it comes to ordering, most items are 'nyet', not available. We order a meat soup and a borscht. My borscht arrives with lumpy animal pieces in it- but no beetroot (or any other vegetable matter for that matter). The 'a la carte' has just boiled down to a 'host's table'.
The place ultimately establishes itself as fine dining when Jeannine orders a Coke. The waiter arrives with a Fanta, informing us that Coke is 'nyet'. Shortly thereafter a guy at the next table orders a Pepsi. And gets a Pepsi.

Not sure about the food...?
...then have it with Vodka!

Dining cars on the train get changed according to the country we are crossing. We will be back for the Mongolian experience.

Near Krasnoyarsk we cross the Yenisei river. Unlike all the rivers and lakes we have passed so far, it is not frozen over. The guidebook suggests it's too polluted.
